The market of cheeses remains rather balanced in Russia. Decrease of consumer activity is compensated by reduction of production.
Ukrainian enterprises refuse to diversify the production of cheeses by milk powder. In hope of improvement of market conditions they prefer to risk and produce large volumes of cheeses.
Rospotrebnadzor (Federal Service on Customers’ Rights Protection and Human Well-being Surveillance) offers to tighten the rules for the supply of lactose-free dairy products to Russia from the EU. The supervisory authority suggests that European manufacturers use this provision to import traditional cheeses.
As a whole the situation looks strange on cheese market. There are big problems with sales, but production is growing, and the prices do not fall at all.
On May 22, the Rosselkhoznadzor allowed imports of cheese, produced by two Ukrainian enterprises. According to Interfax News Agency, they are Gadyachsyr LLC and Lozovsky Dairy Plant.
Decline of prices for cheeses, which was observed in Russia in April, was slowed down in the first half of May. But the general tendency is not changed yet – cheeses continue to become cheaper.
According to delfi.lt, a major Lithuanian milk processing brand Rokiskio suris leases its trademark to Russian milk processors. Details of the transaction and the name of a Russian enterprises are not specified.
Decline of consumer demand is more influencing wholesale prices of cheeses.
Ukraine supplied 19,460 tonnes of cheese to foreign markets in 2014, three times down on the previous year (59,000 tonnes).
