VADYM CHAGAROVSKY, Chairman of the Dairy Union of Ukraine: I do not share optimism about the growth of consumption of dairy products in the country this year

Ukrainian milk prices are the third highest in Europe after Cyprus and Malta.  This was stated by Vadym Chagarovsky, Chairman of the Dairy Union of Ukraine.

“Currently, Europe has accumulated a surplus of raw milk, and Ukraine is lacking it,” he said.

“I do not share the optimistic forecast that consumption of dairy products this year will increase to 203 kg per capita.  Because I do not share the optimism about the amount of milk produced shown by our statistics, and I do not think that we have an increase in milk consumption,” – said the expert.

He explained this by the unreliability of official statistics. Vadym Chagarovsky says only the figures for the industrial segment of milk can be trusted.  “Unfortunately, the population has no understanding of the real situation with regard to milk and livestock,” Vadym Chagarovsky added.

According to him, experts estimate total consumption of milk and dairy products at 5-5.5 million tons today. “If we divide this figure by the number of population in the country, we will not get 203 kg per person,” he said.
