Janis Sholks, head of the Union of Latvian milk processors, speaking at Radio Baltkom in the program “Morning on Baltkom”,  said that the Russian embargo does not affect Latvian dairy industry anymore and the volume of exported dairy products outperformed that of 2014.

“We lost significant market in Russia, but now we have managed to exceed sales of the 2014. In total, we are selling a little more than before sanctions. Earnings, however, are still lower because we export fewer goods with high added value: cheese, butter, ice cream, but more raw materials and industrial goods such as milk powder “- said Sholks.

At the same time, he stressed that the crisis has been overcome due to active work on attracting new customers and the state support.

“Now our products are exported to 91 countries, of them 70 are regular and active buyers. On the world map our products can be found everywhere. They are known in Canada, Kuwait, Papua New Guinea, Morocco, Brazil” – said Janis Sholks.
