OLEG DYMAR, Ph.D., professor: Belarusian dairy, most likely, can find its way to EU either as cheap raw materials for processing, or for resale through special sales channels

In his exclusive interview to agrolive.by Oleg Dymar, Ph.D, Professor, shared his views on the stateof Belarusian dairy. In particular, he spoke on the possibility of supplyof Belarusian dairy to EU.

Speaking on the international dairy trade, Oleg Dymar said that the so called “ dairy wars” between Belarus and Russia would go on and creation of the Eurasian Economic Union would not solve this problem.

– The «milk wars” will continue. This is inevitable, – the Belarusian scientist is convinced. – Most likely, at some point they may become more sharp. But I do not understand why it is called “war”? It is better to talk about the banal and well-known worldwide non-tariff regulation of markets, squeezing out competitors, squeezing profits. We were not the first to apply it. Establishing of the Eurasian Economic Union will not remove the severity or frequency of the problems that arise, and may even exacerbate them. In large economic entities, a large number of businesses want to take part in such an exciting process as the division of markets.

Answering question on the Belarusian dairy expansion he said:

– Our technical regulations were generally developed on the basis of the world standards, – says the expert. – In fact, this is not a special obstacle to expansion into foreign markets. Moreover, no one prevents our producers from certifying compliance with any current standards of both production and products.

The big problem is the very rapid development in developed countries of methods for determining everything and everyone. First they determined 4 types of antibiotics, then they began to identify 24 and therefore reject products, they have adjusted… And tomorrow there will be 42 types of control – and they will reject again, but not their own, but competitors. This really creates, sometimes, unfounded, and sometimes quite real problems.

In some miraculous scenario Belarusian dairy can be sold to EU (the Belarusian scientist is ironic). In fact, this is possible for a very limited range of products and in very small quantities.Belarusian dairy, most likely, can find its way to EU either as cheap raw materials for processing, or for resale through special sales channels
