The press service of Ukrainian Agriculture Ministry reports that Taras Kutovyi, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine proposed to implement the sale of land lease rights.

“I can see no possibility of this Parliament to vote through the direct sale of land because of the populism of the deputies. Today the idea is not popular because the populists in anticipation of the next election will surely take the subject of land sales as a means to tell population the scary stories like “your land will be sold for just $ 50.” Therefore, I propose to introduce the sale of land lease rights”, –- said the Minister.

He also said that the cost of the land lease rights will not be less than the cost of the land rent.

“If there is a circulation of lease rights and it is now worth $ 1,000 or $ 2,000 per hectare, then it is absolutely ckear that the right of ownership will  ot cost less,” – said the head of the Agriculture Ministry.

Answering to journalists’ question on the International Monetary Fund insisting on selling land, Taras Kutovyi said he personally spoke with the IMF and they agreed to the option of sale of lease rights.

“I told them that it is better to make one meter step forward than wipe on three-meter and remain without result,” – said Taras Kutovyi.
