Chemical engineers of Nibulon studied the possibility of determining coronavirus in human blood with an apparatus for checking GMOs in agricultural products.

“It turned out that using one of our devices – CFX96 TouchReal-Time PCR DetectionSystem amplifier, manufactured in 2017 (USA) – it is possible to detect coronavirus by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The PCR method is the most accurate for detecting genomic RNA viruses of those existsting in the world, because it analyzes the specific SARS-CoV-2 genome, with high detection accuracy from 5 target sequences. To fulfil the detection we need to purchase only reagents for RNA / DNAVirus extraction and kits for direct qualitative detection of new coronavirus RNA. What we did immediately – we ordered 200 samples in Germany. I ordered such a quantity because I don’t know the real need, and specialists were not enthusiastic”, said Oleksiy Vadatursky.
According to him, the company is ready to buy more reagents, if the initiative is accepted and supported.
Moreover, the director of the Nibulon company emphasized, that it turned out that there is no equipment of such level either neither in the city nor in regional medical institutions. “And even those that are being purchased now are simpler than ours. Perhaps we are a fairly strong agricultural company, so we have much more productive equipment than even where such equipment is needed for human health. But, I’ll tell you a secret, there are at least 3 such devices in Mykolaiv in other non-medical structures. And speaking of Ukraine as a whole, there are up to hundreds of such devices”, he said.
According to the report, with such a device, 40-48 samples of biomaterials can be analyzed simultaneously for the SARS-CoV-2 virus. According to company estimates, up to 400 samples can be processed per day.
“And if you use all three… The price of the “pleasure” to do the test is € 25, but we havrpe to add that this will speed up the process of detecting the virus infection, and it is just this approach that will help to take control of its spread”, – concluded Oleksiy Vadatursky.
