Almost 20% of Ukrainian retailers reduced their staff by more than 10% during the war

Almost 20% of Ukrainian retailers reduced their staff by more than 10% during the war, while 62% of companies unscheduledly reduce the process of hiring new employees – this is what  a joint study of the Association of Retailers of Ukraine and Rabota.ua says.

As of August, 14.2% of the surveyed retailers cut up to 10% of their workforce, 7.1% of companies cut up to a quarter, and 12.8% cut about half of their staff or more, according to released data.

The cuts were mostly in customer support positions (42%), back-office administrative roles (34%) and production line staff (17%).

At the same time, almost 60% of retailers are now working at full capacity – their number has increased by 2.1% since April, the study stated.

According to the survey, 18% of the companies have stopped the implementation of personnel hiring plans by the end of the year.  However, 12% reported increasing hiring, and 8% reported keeping current plans.

Retail companies intend to increase hiring of specialists in logistics and delivery (46% of respondents), IT (41%) and digital marketing (10%).
